The American Revolution

Introduction

The American Revolution, the bith of of the United States of America. If it wasn’t for the revolution we wouldn’t have the united states. In my report I will tell why it was the birth of the U.S.A and the causes of why we wanted to break from England and determine which cause was most important.

Political causes

The colonies had already got used to taking a share in their own goverment. So the colonies really didn’t need Brittian in their goverment they caused to many problems. The colonies got used to settling their own problems like the one with the indians wich was the proclomation of 1763 which stated that it was prohibited to buy land behind the appalations because the indians was raiding the colonies that came to close to their tribes. The colonies elected an assembly to stand for each colony. The virgians set up the house of burgesses only twelve years after james town was settled. You could tell they were ready to govern themselves from the start because the pilgrims made the mayflower compact in 1620. They knew this was going to be a big thing because they thought of the americas as a new world and they were ready for changes and to get rid of the british monarchy ways. For a long time Enland had let the colonies drift along with little restraint. There was no central goverment who was supposed to supervise them.

Geographic causes

Britian was to far from the colonies to really know what was going on and plus it was to many problems going on britain to worry about the colonies but that wasn’t the colonies faught. If wasn’t for britian being so far away we wouldn’t of found out how to solve our own problems. We made a couple mistakes governing like the Albany congress, it might of failed but if you don’t make mistakes how will you learn. Edmond Burke wrote “seas roll, months pass between the order and execution” which ment that Englands rapid changing parties did not hold a consistent course that every thing was rapidly changing and was tearing the colonist apart because it took a certain amount of months to reach England so about time the messengers reached England the problem was solved or out of proportion.

Economic causes

British imposed a new series of taxes that were used to raise revenue from the colonies. The colonist didn’t like the new taxes so they protested which made the british push back the taxes. So britian had to think of another way which they could save money so they made the Quartering act which forced the colonist to provide food and shelter for the troops. Then in a stamp tax was enforced which put a tax on all legal documents like the newspaper, marriage licences, and 47 other documents. Not only was it a hurting in the pocket, but these things they taxed was used in every day use. This caused protests to grow. This began the slogan “no taxation without representation”. The colonist formed a secret organization called the sons of liberty which forced stamp officials to resign from their posts. When Charles Townsend took ranks in the goverment he wasn’t to concerned about the colonist he wanted to make Britian more powerful he imposed new taxes on the colonists. These laws included special taxes on lead, paint, paper, glass and tea imported by colonists. In addition, the New York legislature was suspended until it agreed to quarter British soldiers. The Acts also insured that colonial officials, including governors and judges, would receive their salaries directly from the Crown. The colonist boycotted by not importing british goods. Within a year importation from britian almost dropped in half. In response to colonial protest and increasing attacks on colonial officials by the Sons of Liberty Lord Hillsborough, Secretary of State for the Colonies, dispatched tow regiments-(4,000 troops), to restore order in Boston. An armed clash between the British and the colonists was almost inevitable from the moment British troops were introduced in Boston. Brawls were constant between the British and the colonists, who were constantly insulting the troops. They began pelting snowballs at the guards. Suddenly, a shot rang out, followed by several others. Ultimately, 11 colonists were hit. Five were dead, they called this the Boston massacre.

Conclusion

As you can see the economic causes played a big part in why we wanted to break from England so I say the economic causes was most important. Britian caused to many controversies and killings and uprisings for us to trust in Britian so why would you stay with a goverment who tries to suck you dry.
