There are many choices for a person looking to go on a vacation. Tourists travel for a variety of reasons. Some travel to better educate themselves, others travel for entertainment purposes, then there are those who travel simply to relax and have a good time. If one is looking for education, what better place to find it than our nations capital? Washington D.C. has a vast selection of places that one can learn a variety of things. With world famous museums, including the National Museum of American History, educational resources are in abundance. Tourists can spend several days touring the many parts of the Smithsonian Institute, one of the largest and finest collections of museums in the world. At these museums one can see anything from Dorothy?s ?ruby slippers? to a real space shuttle. Beyond that there is the Arts and Industries Building and Ford Theater/Lincoln Museum where President Lincoln was assassinated. Also for education lovers there are a variety of libraries and numerous monuments to visit. Some of them include the Washington Memorial, and the Lincoln, Jefferson and Roosevelt
Memorials. One can also see the Vietnam memorial and the Korean War memorial. These are all very moving and educational experiences.
In addition to being a city full of educational opportunities, Washington D.C. is full of entertainment and culture. One can tour the U.S. Capital Building, the White House, the Supreme Court, and many federal government agencies like the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (where they print money) and the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI). visit the house of representatives and see our government at work! At Arlington
Cemetery, across the Memorial Bridge, one can visit the final resting-places of George
Washington, John and Robert Kennedy as well as thousands of statesmen, politicians and
US veterans of the armed forces. There are many theaters to visit in Washington D.C.
including The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. Its facilities include an
opera house, concert hall, and two large theaters. One can also visit Mt. Vernon, the
home of our nations first president, George Washington. There you can go on a tour of
the home of our nations founding father. For a relaxing treat there is the Washington
Ballet and the National Symphony Orchestra.
For those who are looking to relax and have fun, Washington D.C. is virtually a
buffet of choices! The National Zoo on Connecticut Avenue, north of the Georgetown
district, offers a pleasant diversion. The Georgetown District, northeast of the mall, is a
great place to go shopping in trendy boutiques or to go eat in fashionable restaurants.
Another fun site for tourist is Union Station. There are many cafes, shops , and other
forms of entertainment in this building which is the most visited site in Washington D.C.
And also the busiest train station in the united states. There are a wide selection of hotels and dining places to choose from. Including the Embassy Suites, the Hyatt Regency and
the President National. Also fun is the National Aquarium. There, you can see
many different types of marine animals. There are many sports teams in Washington
D.C. so sports lovers can catch a game! There are many night-clubs, concerts and
plays to attend and see in the nations capital. Music lovers of ALL types can be pleased
and for party hoppers the night life is happening!
