How does he do it? He lies. He lied to his family, and he lied to his friends. He lied to his cabinet, and he lied to congress. And he lied to American’s. Then he lied about lying. How does President Clinton do it? Very well. President Clinton is a man who has cost the United States millions in investigation fees on his impeachment trial. This money could have been used to feed homeless US citizens or help find cures for diseases. This paper will briefly outline the one man who changed history with his deceit and lies.
Just when it seemed the air was clearing in Washington, the economy was doing great and Americans were in the best financial shape they had been in years, our county was hit with one of the biggest scandals in a decade. Little did Americans know that the man they call the President was a cheat and liar and would be involved in one of Washington’s biggest scandals since the Nixon years.
It started with Paula Jones a woman who accused the president of sexual harassment. Most Americans immediately shrugged their shoulders at the accusation and assumed the accuser (Paula Jones) was just trying to get attention. The president immediately denied the allegation, and said he knew of nothing she was talking about. Next there was the Monica Lewinsky scandal; a young woman who denied she had an affair with the president as did the president. However, as time moved forward so did Kenneth Starrs (Independent Council) investigation into the Monica Lewinsky scandal? More information surfaced on the alleged affair with the intern, along with recorded tapes provided by Linda Tripp, a long time friend of Monica Lewinsky. Finally Miss Lewinsky admits that she did have an affair with the President. President Clinton sticks to his story and shakes his finger at the camera and says “I did not have sex with that woman; Miss Lewinsky.” That will go down in history as one of the most talked in-your- face lies.
Those are just to name a few scandals that President Clinton has been involved in. As Starrs investigation heated he realized that the Monica Lewinsky matter was not going to go away like everything else so, he broke down and admitted that he had had an affair with Lewinsky and had the nerve to go on national television and admits his wrong doing. In front of millions of viewers “he said he had mislead the nation and including his wife”.
President Clinton had finally been caught in a lie and this time it would affect the way people think about him forever. No more knick names such as “slick Willie” who received that name for his ability to slip past the scandals. We all know that the sex scandals were not a first for the president. Scandals have been surrounding him since his election in 1992 starting with Water gate, File gate, illegal campaign contributions and the list goes on and on.
“Republicans declared that the private aspects of Clinton’s misconduct was no ones business, certainly not the senates”(Time pg. 2). It seems that our representatives and even Americans have forgotten that the president represents the country, and the highest executive office in the United States. The president has been caught in lie after lie. When will the American people say enough is enough? Most American’s keep saying the country and the economy are doing great, so what he (president) does in his spare time is no concern of ours. We support and pay for that office he holds, and if he lies about affairs and other important matters, soon he will destroy what all Americans and our forefathers have worked so hard to build.
