In His Memories
I remember the hour before my graduation ceremony like it was yesterday. The most memorable day of my life came to an abrupt stop as m y grandfather hit the ground at the bottom of the steps. All I heard was a thump and then a crack. Because of my grandpa’s death, I have learned to enjoy every day that I am alive.
My experience started about an hour before my graduation ceremony. My grandpa and my brother were up stairs getting ready for the ceremony. Then my brother helped him down the stairs of my parents two-story house. I was sitting on our recliner parallel to the stairs. I looked over to the stairs to see my grandpa miss the last four steps. My brother grabbed for him but couldn’t hold up his dead weight. As he landed at the bottom of the steps, all I heard was a thump and then a crack. I felt as if my heart could have popped out of my chest. For the first few seconds all I could do was stand their in disbelief.
