Most jewelry of Africa comes from the kingdom of Benin, which is located in a tropical rain forest in southern Nigeria. In the kingdom of Benin, the Oba rules over the life and death of his subjects. In the Equatorial Rain Forest, ivory is plentiful and is valued for it?s rich patina and magical powers. Royal people would wear ?hip? ornaments to decorate themselves. Most of these ornaments are made from brass. They are worn for special events. They are intricately carved and are of high regard by its people. The Oba, or king, is celebrated by wearing these pieces. The method of making this jewelry is called bronze casting. These pieces are worn by women to entice young men, limit movement of walking, and to afford and handsome wiggle.
