Wait Until Dark

by

Frederick Knott

The play “Wait Until Dark” has a melodrama form about it, which opens in the first act with a confused plot. It is a normal size play with three act in it. The whole theme of the play is centered around a total of seven actors, each of which have pretty active parts. The mood is set in this play as the first act opens in the basement apartment of a house in a community called Greenwich Village. This mood continues to unfold into many more moods as the play gets well underway at the beginning of the second act.

The story of the play is centered around an elderly blind lady. This blind lady has very little confidence in herself as a blind person able to service in a world alone. She is drawn in to a situation in which two men are looking for a doll in and around her house apartment. After one man has eliminated the other man, the blind lady ends up killing the second man by stabbing him with knife. Though all of the efforts of the blind lady, she finds that she is not so helpless after all, and her confidence is built to a high level with the events in this play.

This play was actually written in 1964, but did not hit a high level of success until it was presented in Baltimore on February 2, 1966. Even though this play was written in 1964, it is still used today in many of our arts and literature classes of modern today.
