The modern Oplympic Game, first held in 1896, in Athens, Greece.

Because of World War 1, the 1916 games, scheduled for Berlin, were not held; the Olympics picked up again in Antwerp in 1920.
The first Winter Olympic Games were held in Chamonix, France, in 1924.

Yet the headliner was Jesse Owens, a 22-year-old african-american who won four gold medals in track and field and, despite puncturing the nazi myth of Aryan superiority, was adored by the German fans.
