Romeo + Juliet Essay, Research Paper

There have been many arguments during the past on whose fault it really was that caused the tragic death of the two young lovers Romeo and Juliet, in the William Shakespeare play. There have been many suspected people in this tragic story of Romeo and Juliet on who caused these two young lovers death or was it just their destiny.

Had it not been for the compliance of both the nurse and the Friar, Romeo and Juliet would not have died.

The Friar who is a Holy man with a wonderful and thoughtful personality was one of the suspected people, who were thought to contribute to the death of Romeo and Juliet. Even though he married the two star-crossed lovers without their parent s consent he was only trying to help the two family Capulet and Montogue Unite. Not only that he gave Juliet a potion to drink because she asked him for help. If he didn t give it to her she threatened to kill herself and would ve died anyway.

Tell me not, friar, that thou hear st of this,

Unless thou tell me how I may prevent it.

If, in thy wisdom, thou canst give no help,

Do thou but call my resolution wise,

And with this knife I ll help it presently. (Act 4 scene 1 lines50-54)

In this scene Juliet it is saying if Friar Lawrence can t help her then she will kill herself instantly with the knife she s holding.

The friar s plan on Juliet and the potion was only meant to join the couple together without any damage. He didn t expect the message that he sent to Romeo wouldn t reach him and that Balthasar would go and tell Romeo about Juliet s death.

The nurse, who is like a mother and best friend to Juliet, was another person who was also thought to participate in the death of Romeo and Juliet.

The nurse is a woman who has a happy, cheerful and nice personality. She loved Juliet as if she was her own daughter because she looked after her since she was born. Juliet would always come to her with all her troubles and concerns and the nurse would always try to find a way to help Juliet out and give her advice.

At first the nurse assist Juliet s on her secret marriage because she loved Juliet and wanted her to be with the one she truly loved. After the death of Tybalt and the troubles that had been going on about Romeo being banished from Verona, the nurse only wanted the best for Juliet. So she told her to marry the County Paris because there would be a much better future for Juliet if she married him.

Romeo is banished; and all the world to nothing

That he dares ne er come back to challenge you;

Or if he do, it needs must be by stealth. (Act 3 scene 5 lines 214-216)

In these lines it is saying that since now Romeo is banished, he wouldn t dare come back to claim Juliet as his wife.

The nurse never wanted to make Juliet hate or be mad with her, she only wanted Juliet to have a good future ahead that s why she advised her to marry County Paris.

Overall from the evidence that have been found, it is thought that it s not the nurse and the Friar s fault that helped caused the death of Romeo and Juliet.

After all they both didn t want to do any harm to Romeo and Juliet. They only wanted things to go right for the two young teenagers. Romeo and Juliet would ve died anyway if the Friar and nurse didn t help them out, because they are a couple that still has a young mind and would do anything to be together. Which includes committing suicide over such little reasons.
