Romeo and juliet
The story of Romeo and Juliet takes place in the town of Verona where a pair of star-crossed lovers take their life (272). There is a feud going on between the Montagues and the Capulets. They have been fighting for many generations. Romeo, who is a Montague, and Juliet, who is a Capulet, fall in love and keep their marriage a secret from their parents. In the end both of them commit suicide. Because of the fake death of Juliet, Romeo sees Juliet in the tomb and drinks poison to be with her. Then Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo dead she also kills herself with Romeo s dagger. The Montagues and Capulets are mostly responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because of the relationship between the two families, they hate each other. The Capulets were making Juliet marry County Paris without asking her if she loved him or not. The parents of Romeo and Juliet did not have a good relationship with their kids or else they would have been able to find out or realize that Romeo and Juliet were married.
The first reason that the Montagues and the Capulets are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is because of the feud that had been going on for generations between the two families. Because of the feud, the two families do not do anything together and a few family members from each of the families like to start fights over little things and sometimes for no reason at all. Because of the fact that the two families did not talk to each other very often, they are mean when they see each other in the streets, they like to start fights. Whenever there is a fight going on between the family members of both the Montagues and Capulets they like to kill people on the opposite side of the family they are fighting with. One example of this is the quote form ancient grudge break to new mutiny (272) which was in the prologue and states that the feud is going to cause fighting to break out and people to die. It also informs us that the relationship between the two families has been questionable for a long time, that they dislike each other. The feud is what keeps the two families from having anything to do with each other and forcing Romeo and Juliet to keep their love a secret.
Second, the death of Romeo and Juliet was partially caused by the fact that Juliet s mother and father were forcing Juliet to marry County Paris without asking her what she thinks about the marriage arrangement. Lady Capulet, Juliet s mother, did not ask Juliet if she loved County Paris. Lady Capulet told Juliet that they had arranged a wedding on Thursday and Juliet asked her mother to influence her father in delaying the wedding so that she would not have to marry County Paris. Juliet s mother would not listen to her. Juliet s dad then told her that I ll give you to my friend; an you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets, for by my soul, I ll ne er acknowledge thee (325). In the quote, Lord Capulet is telling Juliet in a very strict way that if she does not marry County Paris he will banish her to the streets where she will most likely die.
Third, the Montagues and Capulets did not have a good relationship with their sons and daughters or else they would have realized that Juliet and Romeo were in love. When Lady Capulet brings Juliet the news of the wedding Juliet says that she does not want to marry him and her mother tells her to tell that to her father. After she tells her father and he says he will not cancel the wedding Juliet asks her mother to delay the wedding her mother replays Talk not to me, for I ll not speak a word. Do as thou wilt, for I have done with thee (325). In the quote, Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that she will not help her postpone the wedding to a later date and she feels that Juliet is ready to be married to County Paris. Lady Capulet is not listening to her daughter and does not ask why she does not want to marry County Paris, which she might have then realized that Juliet was already in love with someone else.
In conclusion, The Montagues and Capulets are responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet in the play Romeo and Juliet for many reasons. The two families caused the death of Romeo and Juliet because they always fought with each other in the streets of Verona because of a feud that was going on for generations. The deaths were also caused by the fact that the Capulets were going to make Juliet marry County Paris. This was to take place within two days of the day that her parents informed Juliet that they would soon be husband and wife. The last reason that the Montagues and the Capulets are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is because they would not listen to Juliet when she told them that she did not want to marry County Paris proving that they had a faulty relationship with their daughter. The Montagues and Capulets are responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet for a couple of reasons that would be obvious to others.
