“Freedom, our most precious heritage”
To me, freedom is more than just a guaranteed right. Freedom grants individuality and opportunity to everyone. Freedom is a pathway for new ideas. Freedom is the future. These are just some of the qualities that represent freedom.
Freedom allows individuality and opportunity to exist in the everyday world. Freedom allows individuals to express themselves with very little restrictions. Permitting individuals to express themselves openly would destroy a great deal of the everyday pressures people face. People would not have to restrict, or hold in, their feelings. Freedom gives everyone an opportunity to achieve their goals. This in turn, leads to a better society. The society would be better due to the fact that the people in the society would be happier. Happiness is good. When people are happy, they are productive. Therefore the community is improved through the productivity of its inhabitants. This productivity leads to ideas of improvement.
Freedom is a pathway for new ideas. Freedom concedes to new ideas being expressed. Without total freedom, some ideas are not permitted to be expressed. Constructive criticism about the government would be an example of this restriction. In totalitarian states, a person could be permanently removed for saying something negative about the government. This type of action does not put up with any suggestions from people that do not work for the government. In this state of dictatorship there are very few people who may offer ideas, whereas in a free society everyone is invited to make suggestions. All the new ideas lead to conflict and debates. These conflicts and debates, in turn, lead to a person seeing where another person is coming from. It allows someone to look at a situation from a completely different standpoint. In a totalitarian state, all issues are either black or white, yet in a society where there are many ideas about a topic, there is an uncharted and immeasurable grey area. The “grey” is a new frontier waiting to be discovered. The “grey” area is where the two parties, in dispute, come to a compromise. With compromise, there is peace. With peace comes the future.
Freedom is the future, and the future is free. The future is a vast space with no restrictions. No one can say exactly what the future will be like. Freedom is the same way. It is an undiscovered country in which no one can predict what total freedom would be like. Freedom must be experienced before it may be discarded. Freedom has the potential of being a thing of awesome magnitude, but it must be left unrestricted to achieve its potential. Total freedom can be achieved if everyone gives a little. Like the future, freedom is unavoidable but it can be directed in a certain way.
Freedom is and can be a beautiful thing which leads to a better society. Freedom allows constructive criticism and it is the answer to a happier society. We must give freedom a chance. Freedom is good and must be journeyed.
