Since its inception, it has been at the center of controversy. It pros and cons have been heatedly debated back and forth between some of the world?s most gifted minds, and yet, is still the most owned electrical appliance in the world. Who would have known that the television would have been such a danger to our society?
I think every television should be thrown out of every home. Everything on today?s television is damaging to one?s character and mind. Now with the technology of satellite television and room-size screens, television watching has evolved from a simple family pastime to a deadly art where there are no boundaries. Television plays a role in our lives as an entertainer, babysitter, and time filler. But should it play such an important role. Should television be responsible for such an important part of our lives?
Poisoning by media is more dangerous than poisoning by drugs because it not only destroys individuals, but entire families, cultures, and nations. TV can also be addictive. It sends children so many false illusions, that they can?t lead real lives, despite the fact that they are the world?s future leaders.
According to a study conducted by the AC Nielson Company, the average American watches three hours and 44 minutes of TV per day. In a 65-year life span that person will have spent nine years, almost 15% of their life, watching TV. Considering that there are about 4,000 studies that show television affects our family life, rots out minds, and causes serious health problems, it is safe to say that TV isn?t safe at all. It?s no wonder reports indicate 50% of school children are not getting enough exercise and the army?s new recruits are in the worst shape ever.
Television shows strange solutions to family crises. These include seeking comfort in alcohol, drugs, post-marital affairs, and even suicide. In the real world, family problems should be solved by wisdom and beautiful preaching, by conversation and persuasion, something you hardly ever see on television.
Parents realize that there is a lot of sex and violence on television, and they do complain about how children do not learn anything useful from television, but they do nothing about it. The only way you can rid this danger from your home is to remove it completely.
