All Through the Night
It was December 3rd, and Father Monsingnor Ferris went about his
rounds of locking up the church. However, he did not know that Lenny, a
skilled burglar, was waiting in the confessional until the moment Father
Ferris left. He had come to steal a chalice with a star-shaped diamond and
the daily collection of money. He got what he wanted and attempted to
escape.
Meanwhile, an eighteen year old girl who had just given birth to a
newborn baby decided that she really was not able to take care of this baby.
A few hours after the birth of the child in a hotel room, she grabbed the baby,
a stroller, formula, and blankets and dropped the baby off outside the church.
Her plan was to get to a pay phone as soon as possible and make a call to the
rectory telling them about the baby that she had dropped off.
When Lenny ran out of the church, he saw the stroller and took it
thinking that it was abandoned, just so he would not look suspicious when
the cops would show up. The cops past right by him, but as soon as Lenny
got back to the apartment he found a surprise in the stroller. It was a baby
girl! When Lenny’s aunt heard the baby crying, she came in to see why there
was a baby in the house. Lenny told her that he had this baby with another
girl who left him and the baby. His aunt (Nonna) grew very close to the
child, naming it Stellina and caring for her. She mainly raised Stellina by
herself.
Then seven years later, just before Christmas, a couple named Alvirah
and Willy are busy helping Sister Cordelia put on a Christmas pageant at the
after-school shelter. The home base program is threatened to be shut down,
so they need to find a new place to have it. The perfect place would be the
mayor’s old house, but when his wife died her will said that her sister got the
house. Her sister was gladly going to give up the house for the home base
program, but the con artist tenants made a fake will and signed Bessie’s
name. In their fake will they said that the house would go to the tenants.
Alvirah, a crime solver, found out that the will was a fake, so Bessie’s sister
got the house and donated it to the home base program.
Soon, Alvirah gets involved in the mystery of the chalice and the child.
While watching the Christmas play at home base she notices something about
the little girl who was playing the Blessed Mother. What she could not
remember was that she looked exactly like Sondra, the girl who had
confessed only to Alvirah that when that baby was left outside the rectory,
that was her baby. Alvirah promised her that she would help her look for her
seven year old girl, and Sondra’s daughter was right in front of her playing
Mary, and she didn’t even know it. Then Alvirah linked the baby with the
stolen chalice and decided that whoever stole the chalice must have grabbed
the stroller too. It finally came to her attention that “Mary” was the missing
seven year old baby when Stellina brought the chalice that her dad (Lenny)
had stolen from the church. She instantly knew that it was Stellina, but
before she could talk to her and tell her that she knew where her real mother
was, she left for home.
Once at home, her father came in, slammed the door, and ordered for
Stellina to follow him. The cops knew that he was the one who stole the
chalice and took the baby. He was pretending to hold Stellina hostage, so the
police would not shoot him on the way to his car to make his get away.
Lenny shoved Stellina into the car, but she opened the passenger side door
and jumped out and ran to the cop cars because she thought that he was
going to hurt her. Lenny was arrested, but now Stellina was missing. They
found Stellina walking along the road trying to get to the hospital where her
Nonna was. Alvirah called Sondra and told her to come as fast as she could
to the hospital because her daughter and the women who raised Stellina all of
these years were there. Sondra came and saw her daughter for the first time
in seven years. Sondra and her daughter got to know each other more and
lived a happy life.
