Salamander Lab Essay, Research Paper

Materials Large Plastic BagWet Paper TowelTape MeasureClip BoardPaperNet Methods Our class went out in the mountains of the Pisgah National Forest at the site Moore Cove. We walked about a half mile into the woods and stopped when we came to a stream. We then paired up into groups and started looking for the salamanders. We bagan looking under rocks and looking in the stream. When we did come across the salamanders we had to carefully try to catch them because if we were rough with them they would probably break because they have very delicate bodies. They are also very very quick. If you were lucky enough to catch them then you were to carefully place them in the plastic bag you were given. If it was the first salamander you caught after you placed it in the bag you were supposed to wet the paper towel from the area you found the salamander and them place it in the bag, so the salamnder would stay alive. Then if the salamander wasn’t in the water you were supposed to measure how far the salamander was from the water. If the salamander was in the water already, than you wouldn’t need to measure. Also before you put the salamander in the bag you had to identify it by assuming the length and telling what colors the salamander had on it and the different things that would make it easier for us to describe it. We then gave the salamanders to Dr. Glessener and then he identified them by just the looks and not knowing where they came from so his answers wouldn’t be biased.

Results These are the results from the Salamander lab. See the attached sheet of paper. Discussion In this lab we are comparing the results of the total data set versus the 1998 peak, which is 1/
