Many critics consider Du Fu to be the greatest Chinese poet during the dynasty and quite possibly of all time. His unique style and mastery of Chinese language is unparalleled. Du Fu was also an innovator; he is one of the first to comment on political and social matters in his poems, giving historical accounts and criticizing injustices when necessary. Du Fu is one of the most versatile poets, highly skilled in the use of vernacular language as well as formal, his topics ranged from paintings to history to self-analysis.
