Drugs- An Abstract Essay, Research Paper

Alot of people who have tried drugs have experienced side-effects which are sometimes dangerous. If the users do not understand what they are doing it could end up in fatality.

Not everyone reacts to drugs in the same way as others People with mental disorders may be pushed over the edge by their experiences with LSD( Lysergic acid diethylamide, a hallucinogenic drug) and similar drugs that produce hallucinations. Effects vary with body weight. Lighter people will get bigger effects to heavier people.

Drugs for sale on the black market are not always what they seem. Drugs that are made illegally are likely to have been mixed with substances such as sugar, cheaper and more lethal drugs, flour and baking soda. Buyers are rarely sure how strong a drug is , or is the drug what they think they are taking. Mixing drugs is very dangerous because the drug has other drugs mixed then you are taking two drugs on top of each other maybe more than two drugs at a time.

Taking to much at once may produce an experience which gets out of control and causes very bad distress. This may even cause death. If to much is taken over a certain amount of time then the persons looks can change for the worse. Even their attitude can change. If a drug habit develops, then the person could loose the person he/her cares about most, husband or wife and kids, their house, looks, money and control of their own body.

Injecting is the least common way of taking drugs. It is almost the most dangerous way. It carries a number of risks with it:

Infections such as HIV, which causes AIDS and also hepatitis.

Abscesses from injecting drugs in pill form that were never meant for injecting.

Gangrene and blood poisoning.

Overdose when the drug is delivered straight into the blood stream.

Drugs that are injected are mainly of three kinds:

Opiods(like heroine)

Sedatives(like Temazepam)

Stimulants(like amphetamine and cocaine)

Some of the drug, when injected into the blood stream goes directly into the brain causing immediate effects. These effects can cause death, just like the other drugs.

If you are pregnant, heavy use of drugs will affect you and your babies health directly or through poor diet. The risks are not the same for all drugs. A baby born of a mother that was using drugs through the pregnancy may be withdrawn or even be stillborn or premature.

Alot of drug offences are never discovered. To help enforce drug laws, police have very wide powers. If the police wanted to they could search people in the street or search homes with a warrant.

First-time offences may not lead to a prison sentence. But being arrested, prosecuted and convicted can affect the offenders education or career. Planning with a group to commit a drug offence leaves people open to the same sentence they might have got if they had done it. It is an offence to posses a controlled drug, with or without intent to supply to another person, supply controlled drugs or to be in charge of a premises knowingly that dealing is going on.

Amphetamines( also known as speed, uppers, sulphate, sulph, whiz, etc…) are manufactured powders that are made into tablets, capsules for medical use. They are sometimes combined with other drugs. They are used to treat extreme sleepiness, and over-activity in children. They may be taken by mouth, dissolved in water, injected, or even smoked. Usually, though, they are sniffed. They are a class B drug that can cause psychological dependence , depression, hunger, heart failure and high blood pressure.

There are different classes of drugs: Class A( Crack cocaine, cocaine, LSD, Ecstasy, methadone and heroin) Class B(Cannabis resin, Cannabis vegetation, Amphetamine and barbiturates) and Class C

(Temazepam, Phetermine and most benzodiazepines). Barbiturates- Downers- are used to calm people down medically and as sleeping pills. They come in a powdered form and are sold in coloured capsules. Mis-users swallow them, occasionally with alcohol or even inject. Users tend to develop a tolerance to them and then a physical as well as mental dependence. Sudden withdrawal can even kill. The effects can include: Irritability, nervousness, sleeplessness, faintness, sickness, twitching, delirium and convulsions.

Barbiturates are also called Tranx, Benzos, Eggs, blues, reds, sekkies and Jellies. It is a sedative drug. Users develope a tolerance and dependence to the drug, leading to death.
