Discrimination In The U.S. Essay, Research Paper

Discrimination

Discrimination in the U.S., I think has dramatically changed since the 1940’ s-1960. Black Americans have gained the right to eat at public lunch counters, vote, ride public buses, and attend public schools. There still is some racism in the United States. In this essay I am going to tell you some examples of racism that I have heard of.

I never have come in contact with racism. I really think racism is wrong. I think everyone human being in this world is equal to one another. We are the same in every way; the only difference is our appearance. Having different appearances is not bad. I think our world would be very dull and boring if we all looked alike, being different is what makes me to be me and you to be you.

Racism is still here in the year 2000. I cannot remember ever seeing or hearing of discrimination, but I have heard other people’s stories. My friend’s History professor is black American. The professor told the class about an incident that happened to him ten years ago. He tried to buy a house, they told him a price over the phone, and when they found out that he was black, they told him a higher price for the house. My girlfriend’s mother told me, when she was young she remembers the blacks walking in the gutter, so the whites could have the sidewalks.

Do you think discrimination is right? Well, that is your own opinion, but you should really think about that before answering. Think about what racism really means. Ask yourself, what gives us the right even to be racist? We are all the same, no matter what religion, ethnic group, or color.
