Cohabitation
This paper talks about the good ways and the wrong ways to live
before you get married. Cohabitation is when a man and a woman live
together and are sexually active before the take the vows of marriage. In this
article, it talks about the reasons why cohabitation is wrong and explains how
it will harm the relationship and future marriage, if there is one. The church
tells us that living together and having sexual intercourse before you get
married leads fifty percent of the married couples to a divorce. They also say
that sixty percent of the couples break up before they even get married due to
the cohabitation they participated in. This pamphlet also gives examples of
some reasons engaged couples might give to try and justify their actions. The
church reacts to every reason a couple might give. The church explains why
their reason is not a good one and if their reason is something like, we want
to see if we can put up with each other first before we get married in case we
are not able to , then the church says, living together before marriage is not
like living together in marriage because living together before marriage does
not give the couple a binding commitment to support the relationship .
Some of the other reasons people might try to give to support their
actions are, why does the church interfere with our sex lives, isn t that our
business ? The sex life of a couple is their business but the church tells them
what a sin free sex life is and that couple must try their hardest to keep the
laws God. The church is only interpreting God s laws for us to follow and
they must educate us of what is right and what is wrong. The couples sex
life is God s business also and that is why God has set these laws for us to
follow.
This pamphlet gives many reasons not to cohabitate that overpower the
reasons given by the people who choose to partake in cohabitation. Many
people base their decision on convenience. Marriage can become a very
inconvenient and also demanding life to live and convenience will not prepare
anybody for the reality in their future. Another reason that is given by the
cohabitors is that they need to save money for the wedding and if they live
together it will be more economical and they will have more money saved for
the wedding. Everyone on the earth wants to save money but is even a few
thousand dollars worth more than a lifetime of happiness. Married couples
that did not cohabitate are more likely to have a long happy marriage than
those married couples who did cohabitate before their marriage.
