A child’s needs change from age to age. A twelve-year-old would probably need more of one thing than another while a
two-year-old may need the exact opposite. However there are some needs that are present throughout a childhood. Some
of these needs are food, water, clothing, and protection.
There are two different kinds of needs a child has. The first and most obvious needs are ones a child could not survive
without. The second type of needs are ones the child could probably survive without, but not succeed or be happy later in
life without. Both of these kinds of needs are very important during a childhood.
Needs that are absolutely necessary during childhood do not diminish upon reaching adulthood. These needs stay constant
throughout a persons life. Food, water, clothing, and shelter are a few of these needs. Although the amount or quality may
change from place to place and culture to culture they are key to anyone’s survival.
Other needs are not absolutely necessary but are still very important in a child’s life. These are needs that, under normal
circumstances, usually decrease in the amount necessary as a child gets older. Education, protection, and love are some of
these needs. These needs are necessary for a child to grow up, be successful, and have self-confidence.
No matter what age the child is, he has needs. If a child doesn’t get enough of these needs he will not be successful as an
adult, or may not even live to become an adult. If a child gets too much of these needs then he might not be able to succeed
on their own when the time comes. So the amount of these needs a child gets is also very important in determining whether
or not the child succeeds.
